We do not allow IRC on our network. The ports necessary to make IRC work are filtered. If you are caught running an IRC server inside our network your account will be terminated.

Can I remotely reboot the server without your help?
Yes you may remotely reboot your server. If your server is responding then you may log in and reboot the server. In the event your server is not responding, then you may go to MyItricityHosting.com and login as yourself and Reboot the server using the Rapid Reboot Tool. We have something called Rapid Reboot and it is a service that allows each customer to reboot the server with out initiating us at all. You can reboot the server by the simple click of a button from anywhere you are in the world whether the server responds or not.

Are any e-commerce solutions available or included?
There are many e-commerce packages on the market and at this point we do not include an e-commerce solution. However, you may add any e-commerce you like. Tip: Here are the 5 basic things you’ll need to effectively run an e-commerce site; e-commerce software package (store front), a shopping cart, a merchant account, an SSL certificate and a payment gateway (an organization that processes the transactions).

Are there any hidden fees with your Servers?
No, there are no hidden fees. The only way the price will fluctuate is if you go over your bandwidth allotment per month or add any additional services.

Can I create mail accounts on my server? What software is included for mail?
Linux Servers All servers will have software called Sendmail installed at no additional cost. You can create as many email accounts as you like and setup up auto-responders, forwarding, aliasing, and any other mail services you require using Sendmail. The Ensim software uses mail enable but is also unlimited POP and SMTP accounts. Windows servers come with Mail Enable, Professional Edition. It is also unlimited POP and SMTP accounts.

Can I run a game server and if so how do I set it up? Can I run a game server and if so how do I set it up?
Yes, we do allow game servers on our network, in-fact we have quite a few customers already with us for this purpose. How the server is maintained really depends on the game, most multi player games have a client and a server portion of them, the client being the part that you, the player actually uses to play and the server being the part that is run on a computer that everyone will connect too to play. If you query the instruction manual that came with your game you will probably find more information on running the server portion of it, as well as what operating systems the server portion will run on. If you still need help we recommend going to the game developer’s web site for more information.

Can the servers be upgraded?
Yes, Through a manual process we can customize an upgrade for any server in our farm

Could you install another OS for me?
ItricityHosting only offers Red Hat Linux, Windows 2000 and 2003 at this time. We have no plans at this time to offer any others. However you have root to the servers and may install what ever you like. We recommend doing regular dumps to your local machine so in the event there is an irreparable problem we will only kick start the server with the original install. This will be billed at a one time $30.00 fee. The reason for this is we have created tools for our customers to use and they are not designed to work with other Operating Systems.

Do you offer Intel Processors?
Actually we use Both Intel and AMD processors.

Do the Linux Servers come with PHP and MySQL by default ?
Yes the Linux Servers come with PHP and MySqL by default.

Do the Windows Servers come with Web Based Email or just email?
The Windows Servers do come with Web Based Email.

Do you allow IRC?
We do not allow IRC, egg drop bots or anything of the sort on our network. IRC servers are subject to DOS Attacks The ports necessary to make IRC work are filtered. If you are caught running an IRC server inside our network your account will be terminated. This is a pretty common practice in the hosting market today.

Do you allow adult sites for your dedicated packages?
ItricityHosting does not allow Adult or pornographic content of any kind whatsoever.

Do you cap or throttle the bandwidth on my server?
Your 10 Mbps connection will be burstable and we do not cap or restrict your connection.

Do you do an off the disk installation of Red Hat?
We do use an off the disk install but it does have many holes in it therefore we have applied all the latest security patches. The installation of the operating system you will get from us is secure. The ongoing security is your responsibility. The versions of the Apache, Sendmail, Bind, and so on are the same as on the disk as well.

Do you have 30 days money back guarantee for your plans?
ItricityHosting does not have a 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. The reason for this is we already offer a service with the lowest risk possible. This would also leave the gate open for Spammers, Dos Attackers, and Port Scanners. They would essentially take advantage of us if we had a test drive or a 30 day money back guarantee. It’s no hassle hosting. No Contracts, No Setup fee and around $100 to $150...so it’s virtually no Risk! Just try us one month and if you don't like it then you can simply walk away. That is the beauty of it! Monies paid are for services rendered by ItricityHosting for that month.

Do you have Firewalls in place on your network?
ItricityHosting does not have firewalls at the network level. Due to the diversity of our customer base, it would lock some people out. You are more than welcome to install a software firewall for additional protection.

Do you have any monitors to watch for DoS/DDoS, repetitive Scans....?
We do monitor the network proactively to prevent any such attacks but keep in mind that NO company can protect your from a Dos Attack. Dos Attacks are not random so if you re a target then you probably will get hit no matter where you are hosted. We do have extended relationships with our providers to shut the attackers off at the source.

Do you offer any Anti-Virus software by default?
Many people have specific preferences as to what Anti-Virus to use on their servers and we do not want to assume we know what you like. You are more than welcome to install whatever program that suits you.

Do you provide a Back up service?
Our customers are doing one or two of three things. 1. On the Linux or the Unix Platforms the administrators usually will create a dump script and back the data up over the web to their local machine. This aids in not having the data in one place only and saves you the cost of any additional hardware here. This is a common practice. On Windows you may dump the data to a flat file and then back it up to your local machine as well. 2. The Dual Drive options can be used to have the data backed up from one drive to the other. Most people use the primary drive as a “Production Drive” and the other as a Backups Drive. 3. Many people are using this as a backup solution or they will get a second server here since they are only around $100 and back up from one to the other.

Do your Windows Servers come with the .NET Framework?
Actually the .NET frame work is not on the Windows 2000 servers by default but can be installed.

Do your Windows servers come with MSSQL?
Actually MSSQL is a licensed product and has to be purchased. We are not a licensed distributor and therefore cannot provide it. You are welcome to purchase it and install it on the server.

Does ItricityHosting provide Anti-Virus Software?
Well we do not include Virus software because people like different types for different reasons and we do not want to assume that we know what you like. This is why we give you the ability to install whatever software you like.

Does the GB in 700 GB traffic mean 700 gigabytes or gigabits?
The GB in 700 GB means Gigabytes.

How am I billed Monthly (prorated)?
You will be billed every 30 days from the day you start.

How are security patches handled?
The servers will have all the known security patches and OS patches when you receive access to the server. Security of a server is much like renting an house. It is your responsibility as the tenant to lock the windows and doors. If you leave something open, and something is compromised then you really cannot sue the landlord. Ongoing maintenance and updates is the Administrator's responsibility. ItricityHosting does not apply security patches proactively, however we do have the ES (Enterprise) version of Red Hat which includes proactive notifications of patches that need to be applied. It is $20 per Month for this version of the OS. It will notify you of the new patches and you can apply them as they come to you. Keep in mind you are not paying $20 per month for the patch notification, this fee is for the ES Operating System. This guarantees you that the OS will not change to a new one for about 5 years. It puts your mind at ease regarding the OS because its ok to get comfortable with your OS and not have to worry about it changing to a new version every time RH decides to roll out a new one. Not the mention, the headaches that can be associated with upgrading to the latest OS. This fee is for the guarantee of it not changing AND the notification of the latest security patches. Keep in mind that for patches on the older versions of Red Hat, you may contact Progeny.

How are the Hard Drives Partitoned?
The standard Partitioning is as follows; 40 MB boot - 1 GB SWAP - the rest is Root

How do I access the Windows servers remotely?
The Windows servers come with Terminal Services. You may install VNC or PC Anywhere if you so choose.

How do I create a Support Ticket?
Simply go to our site and click on "My ItricityHosting" in the top right corner of the site. Login and click on "Request Support". Choose the proper Service Category your request falls under, fill out the form in its entirety and then submit it. Tip: after the choice has been made it will tell you the resolution time you can expect depending on the issue.

How do I go to a Bigger (Higher specs) server from a Smaller Server?
This is normally done 2 weeks before the billing cycle is up on your old server. This way you have 2 weeks to make sure the new server is ready to receive requests. This is also to minimize downtime. The old server will continue to receive requests whilst you set the new server up. Once you have an exact duplicate running on the new server; then you can switch the DNS. Send an email to Billing@ItricityHosting.com informing them of what has taken place and letting them know to take the old server down. Make sure to ask them not to bill you again on the old server. This is Standard Operating Procedure for all of our customers.

How do I install Software from a CD to my server?
Linux: You may FTP an image of the disk to the server here and login via SSH to do the install. Windows: You copy the CD on your local C Drive, you may then map the drive using admin shares to the server here. You can then cut and paste the image from your C Drive there to the Drive here. You may then login using Terminal Services to do the installation.

How do I know when my server is ready or online?
You will receive an email notification with the IP and the password so you may access the server and begin setting it up.

How do I place an order?
You place an order by simply going through our online sign up process. All you have to do is next to the server you want click "select and check out"; it will walk you through the process. At the end of the process you will receive a confirmation of your order. Once the payment has been approved, the server will go to an online status and you will receive an email notification with your IP and Password. You may then login to the server and begin setting it up.

How do you handle a server that has been discovered Spamming?
The servers are shut down immediately and the offenders have to deal with the Abuse Department to remedy the issue. It does depend on the severity. If the server is just spewing out trash then we are forced to shut the server down to protect the others on that subnet. If it is merely a couple of complaints then we will contact you to rectify the issue. In the event you do not respond in the said time or in a timely manner then the server will have to be taken down.

How does ItricityHosting detect intruders (hackers)?
We are implementing an IDS system that will aid with intrusion at the network level. However the security of the server is your administrator’s responsibility. If you need additional protection I recommend installing a software firewall or inquiring about segmenting your server behind a hardware firewall, available for an additional fee.

How fast is your OC-3 connection?
Our OC-3 backbone connection has a 155.52 Mbps transfer rate. Keep in mind that ItricityHosting is multi-homed network (using Cisco Networking Gear) with connections that range from DS3 to OC48 through SBC and Sprint.

How is bandwidth measured?
Customers will be billed for data in and out. We take samples at the switch that works much like the odometer on your car. This will tell us your aggregate usage.

How long does it take to set the servers up?
We guarantee 48 hours to set the servers up. I have seen it done in 6 hours though. It does depend on payment/order processing.

How many sites can I host on one server?
The complexity of the websites is what determines the system resources that are required to effectively run the sites. The system resources of the server will determine how many can be hosted. I'd say with sites that are moderate in complexity, near the 250 mark on Linux Starter and Power servers. I would say the Powerline 2200, 2600 and 3000 can do about double that safely. It’s near the 150 mark on Windows Starter and Power servers. I would say the Powerline 2200, 2600 and 3000 can do about double that safely. Windows as an OS(Operating System)is more resource intensive, hence the difference.

How much Bandwidth is included?
Each ItricityHosting server comes with 450, 500 GB or 700 GB of data transfer per month.

How much will it cost to upgrade my Windows Server with Ensim?
Well the Ensim software was not designed to lay over pre-existing data. The only way to get the Ensim is to order a new server with Ensim on it and migrate to it. Keep in mind that only 3% (maybe even less)of the people on the web right now have a control panel on Windows to maintain multiple websites. We have just released and are probably the only company that offers this on Windows. Of the 3700+ servers we have the split of about 60/40 meaning 60% is Linux and 40 % is Windows. A very small percentage of these customers are using a control panel software on Windows. All of these customers are subject to migration. Note: this is normally done 2 weeks before the billing cycle is up on your old server. This way you have 2 weeks to make sure the new server is ready to receive requests. This is also to minimize downtime. The old server will continue to receive requests whilst you set the new server up. Once you have an exact duplicate then you can switch the DNS and send an email to Billing@ItricityHosting.com informing her of what has taken place and letting her know to take the old server down.

If AMD and Intel have the same Mhz, how come AMD is faster than the other?

Is NetBios enabled by default on your windows 2000 servers?
When you get a Windows 2000 server, NetBIOS is not enabled; you can enable it if you like. However this is a known security risk. This is the reason that it is not enabled during the initial install of the Operating system.

Is Support available 24 hours a day?
ItricityHosting Support is available 24 hours a day through our ticketing system. Keep in mind that is very hard to man a call center 24/7 in the $100 to $150 market. It does not make business sense. If you need a higher support level or phone support 24/7 I recommend using our partner Rackspace Managed Hosting (The Leader in the Industry in Managed Hosting).

Is raid mirroring avaliable?
No I am very sorry but it’s hard to get RAID in a low cost manner. The raid card and the drives would cost almost as much as the server! You may configure software RAID on our new dual drive solutions. Quick note: RAID is NOT a backup solution, it is known as Hardware Fault Tolerance. Example: if you have corrupt files on one drive them they are corrupt on the others, hence you will need a backup.

Is the a toll free telephone number for support?
ItricityHosting Support is a “Self Managed Solution that is handled through our ticketing system. Keep in mind that is very hard to man a call center 24/7 in the $100 to $150 market. Is ther a sales tax if I order the server?
You should not be subject to tax unless you are in the State of Texas.

Is there a annual Discount if I sign for a year?
At this time ItricityHosting only offers Month to Month Agreements. We have considered this, but the idea behind ItricityHosting was to be very low risk. We are not trying to lock anyone in here. We want you to experience our service and feel comfortable in knowing that you are not trapped in a contract.

Is there a guarantee on hardware components?
Yes. In the event of a hardware-related problem, we will immediately replace any failed component at no cost to you. Replacements are usually made within a few hours although there is a 24 hour guarantee. We will make every attempt to correct the problem as soon as possible. You will be notified by e-mail once the problem is resolved.

Is there a tool included to monitor my bandwidth usage per month?
ItricityHosting does not currently have a Bandwidth Monitoring Tool. Our customers now are installing software to monitor their current usage. We have a Tool in progress with our R&D Team however is still being worked and is not quite ready at this time. It should be ready in a month or so.

Is there an IP you could provide me so I may test latency?
Actually you may ping www.ItricityHosting.com to test this as it is on our network or call Sales for an IP to ping in our Virginia Data Center.

Is there an overage rate if I exceed the 400 GB of bandwidth?
There is an overage rate if you exceed your server's allotment. The rate is $5 per GB over. ItricityHosting was not designed for high traffic. The reason for this is; if you are only paying us $100 to $150 per month and pushing over your allotment then we are losing a great deal of money. This does not make much business sense, hence the $5 per GB overage fee. It's more of a deterrant price.

Is toll free tech support included or an additional cost?

May I get more IP's from ItricityHosting?
Yes you may. The IP's are $2.50 per IP per month and the servers come with 1 by default. There is also a one time $15.00 setup charge each time you add IP's despite how many you are adding. You may get as many as you can justify per ARIN's Rules. The $15.00 is a processing fee for the justification through ARIN. Keep in mind that you may use Name Based Hosting instead of IP Based Hosting. ARIN's opinion is that the only reason you should have to get a specific IP for a domain is if you are running SSL on that site. You may get an additional IP for Secondary DNS if you wish as well.

May I run my own name servers?
Yes you may have your own Name Servers. You may configure your server to run it’s own. Generally Virtual Hosts do not want to have their DNS reference their hosting company's name. ItricityHosting has chosen bland name servers to aid in this. ns1.geodns.net ns2.geodns.net You are more than welcome to run dns on your server. It is best to have your primary IP here setup as ns1.yourdomain.com and use ours as the secondary. This makes the most sense as running secondary on your server defeats the purpose of secondary. Not to mention, its smarter to use ours as secondary due to the fact that our ns1. will act as your secondary and our ns2. will act as your 3rd name server (slave).

May I use ItricityHosting's Name Servers?
Yes you may use our name servers free of charge; however it is best if you have a few hundred domains to configure your server to run its own.

What are the advantages of ItricityHosting?

These tools were designed to make your life much simpler as the single point administrator. This tool allows you to manage multiple domains very easily on a Linux Server ( in some cases Windows). It also allows you to add new domains and mail accounts by simply pointing and clicking. It also gives you the ability to provide a control panel for your end users so they may do some light administration on their own sites. This takes a great deal of the administration headaches off of you. Imagine yourself managing 50 to 100 sites and half of them calling you needing specific things. You have all of a sudden become very busy wearing your Admin hat. Wearing this hat too often can make your business become stagnant. The secret to the Virtual Hosting is focus on the front end of your business making it grow. You know, dumping new people into the funnel. If you are spending too much time doing administration then your business could suffer. This is what these types of tools were designed to do.

What are your payment options?
We only have the ability to accept Visa, AMEX and Master Card at this time. We are working diligently to get more options added but at this time, we are limited to Visa, AMEX and Master Card.

What brand of servers do you use?
We use name brand components but we build the servers ourselves, this way we may keep provisions on hand in the event of a hardware failure. We will replace any failed component at no cost to you. This is done so we are not subject to hardware availability issues as you would be with a proprietary hardware solution. All of the hardware goes through rigorous testing before it even hits provisioning. Keep in mind that we are responsible for the hardware and it falls under our guarantee. ItricityHosting does not want to be in the hardware replacement business we are in the Discount Dedicated Server business.

What do I need to add an Ecommerce Store to my Server?
5 Necesitites for Ecommerce 1. Ecommerce Software Package ( Store Front ) This software will provide you with the look and feel of how you want your store to be set up. 2. Shopping Cart This allows your customers to wander though your store and add Merchandise (multiple items) that they are interested in buying from your store. 3. SSL Certificate (Secure Socket Layer) This let's your customers know that is it ok to insert any personal data about themselves (Credit Card, Social, Address) and that it will be encrypted so in the event it was intercepted that it would be rendered futile. Note: There are many recognized entities in the market that provide these Certs. Verisign is the Largest and can be pretty expensive. They do have a product called the PayFlo Pro that you might want to look in to. Also be sure and ask Verisign's competitors for a comparable solution! There is a list of the ones to look for; GeoTrust Komodo, Thawte. 4. Payment Gateway This can be an organizaton that will handle the transactions for you. Look for CCBill or the PayFlo Pro. 5. Merchant Account This can be setup very easily through your bank.

What does 3 Ticket Bundle mean?
The ItricityHosting servers come with 3 Free "Move in" tickets. These are complimentary Support Tickets from ItricityHosting for starting with us and it is to help you get "moved in" to the server.

What does Cogent Mean?
Cogent is a bandwidth provider and they are in a big war with AOL. They have cheap bandwidth but it is not reliable. Many people doing hosting use many different hosts as they like to spread the risk around. Many of our competitors use Cogent. We are simply letting people who have servers at competitors and have experienced the Cogent pain that they will not feel that pain here.

What does the "hide" button mean in my My ItricityHosting account?
This is a new feature from ItricityHosting that allows our customers to hide any servers in your account that are not longer active such as migrations servers. This is so you may only deal with the active servers at hand.

What efforts will you make to get your IP's off Anti- Spam lists?
In the event we are listed anywhere, the Abuse Team will work with these organizations to remedy the problem and potentially have us removed. All hosting companies are subject to this. ItricityHosting does work hard to get them removed.

What happens if I get hacked and someone uses over my bandwidth allotment?
If you are a target for hacks then it really doesn't matter where you are. There is no company that can protect you from being hacked by someone who wants to hack you specifically. There are additional precautions and measures you may take to minimize this. You may install a IDS (Intrusion Detection System) or a Software Firewall for added protection. I can tell you that our servers come with 450, 500, and 700 GB of transfer and they would have to hack in and push the entire 60 GB of data for over a solid week to go over your bandwidth allotment.

What is Name Based Hosting? Do I need an IP for each domain on my Server?
Name based hosting is a method used to allow a server to host multiple domains with only one IP address. You do not need an IP address for each site; in fact, you only need one IP for the entire server unless you are running SSL. Name based hosting does not affect the performance or appearance of the domains hosted. You may get as many IP as you can justify and ARIN’s opinion is that the only reason you should have to get a specific IP for a domain is if you are running SSL on that site.

What is Rapid Reboot?
We have a pending patent on something we coined as Rapid Reboot and it is a Free service that allows each customer to reboot their server with out initiating us at all. You can reboot the server by the simple click of a button from anywhere you are in the world whether the server responds or not.

What is ItricityHosting responsible for regarding support ?
ItricityHosting is responsible for the Hardware, the Network. General questions about our services, adding services, and reboots are all included under our standard offering. Anything outside of this scope, you will be able to purchase tickets for.

What is the typical turnaround for email requests?
It varies based on the type of request. We have a 24 hour guarantee for resolution but it is rapidly moving to a 6 Hour turn around.

What is your IP Policy?

You will be at the mercy of the Acceptable Usage Policy Administrator as he will be the one processing the complaints. It is he that determines the severity of the complaints, whether a violation has occurred, as well as deciding to shut a specific server down. I can tell you that we will consult with you and give you the opportunity to correct the problem and again this will depend on the severity. If it is truly an Opt-In list then there should be nothing to worry about. We do operate on a "3 strikes-you're out" rule. We are a month to month company so it won't hurt to try.

What kind of connection are the servers on?
All ItricityHosting servers are set up on a 100Mbps connection by default. You have the ability to push 3.5 Terabytes through this pipe in one month, sustained.

What processes are in place to support server hardware failure?
In the event of a hardware failure, we will replace any failed component at no cost to you. This is done so we are not subject to hardware availability issues as you would be with a proprietary hardware solution. All of the hardware goes through rigorous testing before it even hits provisioning. We have a 24 hour guarantee for hardware replacement however it does not take this long generally. Keep in mind that we are responsible for the hardware and it falls under our guarantee. ItricityHosting does not want to be in the hardware replacement business we are in the Discount Dedicated Server business.

What sort of default anti virus protection is there?

What tcp/udp/icmp traffic do you filter?
We filter our ports in order to enforce our AUP and to prevent the spread of worms. If you would like to send in an email with the list of ports you are concerned with to Sales@ItricityHosting.com then we can let you know whether or not you will be affected. A host cannot just hand out a list of ports as that would render them helpless to malicious people.

What version of Linux comes on the servers?
It does vary based on what OS you choose. They will be the same as the ones you get directly from the manufactuer. Our current options are RH 9.0, Fedora, ES and Debian.

Where is ItricityHosting Located?
ItricityHosting is located in Bloomington and Indianapolis, Indiana.

Why do I have to justify just a couple of IP's?
In the early years of the internet, IP's (Internet Protocols) were abundant and people and companies horded them whether they needed them or not. Now that IP's are scarce, A.R.I.N. (American Registry of Internet Numbers.. the entity that distributes IP's in the U.S.) has issued an IP Justification Protocol to make sure the people that actually need the IP's gets them. All companies now days are subject to this. Example: We as a hosting company get IP's from A.R.I.N. If we were to pass our IP's with out justification we'd be in some serious trouble. Once we went back to A.R.I.N. to get more, they would ask us to justify the ones we passed out. If we could not justify them, then we as a company would not be issued any more which can be crucial to a hosting company's livelihood. Many Hosting companies are passing on the justification to the customers so A.R.I.N. can make sure that they are issued correctly.

Why do you charge for support?
The Servers come with 3 Support Tickets for Free (Move-In Bundle) To help you get moved in and settled. Anything having to do with Hardware, Network, Reboots, adding additional services or just general questions about our services are all included in the standard offering. The idea behind this was; if someone needed administration and had to hire a full time admin, they could pay up to $75 per Half hour. The option was to buy tickets from us and we would do it for much cheaper. You may purchase our tickets in bundles and this makes the tickets $10 each. The Tickets are on a per incident basis. Click on "Support" on our site for details. If you know how to administer a server then you never have to buy tickets.

Will I have Root Control (Super User Access)?
You will have full root/admin access to your server. You are welcome to install whatever you like, make whatever changes, and add mail accounts, domains, sub-domains, FTP Accounts or whatever you like. Any other software or method of installation will not be supported and ItricityHosting will not be responsible for any problems that may occur. If it is necessary to restore the server due to a non supported installation ItricityHosting will charge you a restoration fee.

Will ItricityHosting Install SSL (Secure Socket Layer) on my server?
SSL comes enabled by default with all of our servers. You must provide the certificate; SSL (Secure Socket Layer) is required for secure transactions over the web. You may secure a single domain using one certificate ie: yoursecuredomain.com and then create directories to provide individual secure pages for your customers. Ex. yourdomain.com/user You may purchase Tickets to get help.

Will ItricityHosting monitor my server?
ItricityHosting uses a monitoring system called nagios that monitors many things including ftp,mail, http etc, to ensure the servers are responding. In the even a server does not respond the technicians are paged and they will address the issue. Internal Nagios monitoring of drives, processor usage, temperates can be purchased for an additional fee.

Will ItricityHosting move my domain to my new server for me?
You will be responsible for uploading your site to your server. You must have a registered domain before you can sign up for a server. There is a great deal of liability involved in the migration of data. Most Hosting companies prefer not to step outside of performing their normal functions due to the risk. If something were to happen this would be very serious and not a good way to start a business relationship. We’d prefer not to jeopardize our business relationship before we get started.

Will my server have a web-based control panel?
Ensim by default is a web based control panel. It provides all your hosting functionality.

Will there be a statistics program installed on my server?
Both our windows and linux servers come with Urchin, either by default or as an ala carte upgrade.. You may install whatever package you are comfortable with on the entry level Red Hat Linux server. Analyze 2.2 or HTTP Analyze is a free stats package you may install. It does give you bandwidth usage per domain.

How does SMTP authenticate senders?
It normally doesn’t, just goes by ip address. The control panels use smtp auth or pop before smtp.

On the Linux install CD there are 3 choices, which one does ItricityHosting use?
We use a custom RedHat kickstart installation which is the equivalent of a "Server" installation with all RedHat updates included. Your server will be secure against *known* exploits on the day it is installed.

What are your default Video settings on your Windows Servers?
Terminal Services is restricted to 256 Colors by design. However the video hardware is capable of 32 bit color at 1024X768 resolution.

What is the typical turnaround for email requests?
It varies based on the type of request. We have a 24 hour guarantee for resolution but it is rapidly moving to a 4 Hour turn around.

How do I place an order?
You place an order by simply going through our online process. Create an account, add the server to your account, and at the end of the process you will receive a confirmation of your order.

Once the payment has been approved, the setup process takes 48-hours. The server will then go to an online status and you will receive an email notification with your IP and Password. You may then login to the server and begin setting it up.

What Methods of payment do you accept?
ItricityHosting accepts Visa,MasterCard, and American Express. At this time, we do not accept checks, EFT, Bank Wires. We provide invoices.

Will ItricityHosting move my domain to my new server for me?

What are your network connections?
ItricityHosting is multi-homed network (using Cisco Networking Gear) with connections that range from DS3 to OC3 through Allegiance and SBC. The servers will be on a 100 MBPS connection by default and each Server comes with 450 GB of Transfer.

Can I resell the space on my server?
Yes you may and this can be a very lucrative business. You are welcome to install whatever you like.
You may sell space on your server to different people who want to host their websites but do not need their own dedicated server. This is known as Shared or Virtual Hosting. You may charge whatever price you like since you are the host. These tools were designed to make your life much simpler as the single point administrator. This tool allows you to manage multiple domains very easily on a Linux Server. It also allows you to add new domains and mail accounts by simply pointing and clicking. It also gives you the ability to provide a control panel for your end users so they may do some light administration on their own sites.

Is there a guarantee on hardware components?
Yes. In the event of a hardware-related problem, we will immediately replace any failed component at no cost to you. Replacements are usually made within 24 hours. We will make every attempt to correct the problem as soon as possible. You will be notified by e-mail once the problem is resolved.

Will ItricityHosting monitor my server?

What is your policy on bandwidth?
We do not cap or restrict your bandwidth. Your traffic may burst to as much as the server requires. Each server comes with 450GB of data transfer per month.

How is bandwidth measured?
Yes, the bandwidth is metered and it is measured by polling the switch port for the server every 5 minutes to measure both the in and out bandwidth usage.

Windows: There are no stats packages installed.

What software is included with the servers?
Linux: The servers come with a standard install of Red Hat Linux depending on which package you choose. Some of the Control Panel Software only supporting certain versions of Red Hat Linux at this time. Each server will include Apache Sendmail, Bind, Perl, PHP 4 and MySql. Plesk for example uses Q-mail instead of Sendmail so it depends on which package you choose. You will have root control with full . Telnet and FTP access. SSH and SSL come enabled on the servers as well. All software depends upon which server you purchase.

Windows: Our Windows 2000 servers naturally include IIS 5.0 for Web, FTP and basic SMTP email services, as well as Microsoft's own DNS Server. In addition to this, ItricityHosting Windows 2000 servers include MailEnable Standard for refined SMTP and POP3 email services, especially geared for Virtual Hosting.

Will my server have a web-based control panel?
Ensim is our default web based control panel for both Linux and windows servers.

What are the common software applications available with your servers? What are they for?
Linux: The Red Hat Linux servers have Apache, Sendmail, Bind, and Perl pre-installed.
Apache is the web serving software of Linux
Sendmail is the server's mail software. With Sendmail you can set up mail accounts, forwarding of mail, and can add as many accounts as you like.
Bind is the server's DNS or Name Servers software.
Perl is a standard scripting language that allows you to program cgi's and system administration scripts.

Windows: Our Windows 2000 servers naturally include IIS 5.0 for Web, FTP and basic SMTP email services, as well as Microsoft's own DNS Server. In addition to this, ItricityHosting Windows 2000/2003 servers include MailEnable Professional for refined SMTP and POP3 and web based email services, especially geared for Virtual Hosting.

What other software will ItricityHosting install on my server?
Linux: We will install PHP4 and MySql.

Windows: We install Microsoft's Web Matrix ASP.NET development environment as well as the MSDE database engine. This also includes the .NET . Framework runtime making it possible to develop and deploy ASP.NET web applications and ASP.NET Web Services on your server.

There are many e-commerce packages on the market and at this point we do not include an e-commerce solution. However, you may add any e-commerce you like. Tip: Here are the 5 basic things you’ll need to effectively run an e-commerce site; e-commerce software package or store front, a shopping cart, a merchant account, an SSL certificate and a payment gateway or an organization that processes the transactions.

What is Name Based Hosting? Do I need an IP for each domain on my Server?
Name based hosting is a method used to allow a server to host multiple domains with only one IP address. You do not need an IP address for each site; in fact, you only need one IP for the entire server. Name based hosting does not affect the performance or appearance of the domains hosted. You may get as many IP as you can justify and ARIN’s opinion is that the only reason you should have to get a specific IP for a domain is if you are running SSL on that site.

Can my Hardware be upgraded? What are the fees for this?
Actually ItricityHostingis not set up to have the servers upgraded at this time. We were designed to be an “off the shelf” solution.

What security measures are taken at ItricityHosting?
ItricityHosting takes security very seriously. Every precaution is taken to ensure that absolutely no one has access to your server other than our technical staff. We do not monitor content and do not release customer profiles or disseminate customer information.

Can I get additional IP addresses?
Additional IP's are $2.25 per IP per month. There is also a one time $20.00 setup charge each time you add IP's despite how many you are adding. You may get as many as you can justify. The $20.00 is a processing fee for the justification through ARIN. Keep in mind that you may use Name Based Hosting instead of IP Based Hosting. ARIN’s opinion is that the only reason you should have to get a specific IP for a domain is if you are running SSL on that site. Due to justification through ARIN, additional IPs will incur a setup time of 48 hours.

Does ItricityHosting offer Technical Support?
ItricityHosting’s technical support is limited to the functioning of the server and the proper installation of the included software on the server. Please see our support page on our different support packages. ItricityHosting does not provide technical support for your customers.

Does ItricityHosting allow adult based content?
ItricityHosting does not allow any adult related sites on our network.
